Holland & Sherry Bespoke Opens!

Image from NY Magazine
One of my favorite places to shop for clients is fabric house, Holland &  Sherry.  They have exquisite textiles, the quality is unparalleled, and they carry many of the best lines.  Now they are opening a bespoke retail store in Soho on Elizabeth Street!

This is the first room with a custom made black, grey and white wide-checked rug, tartan plaid upholstered wallsand different high end accessories

Shaving creams, colognes, and other manly items sit in this area.

This is a gorgeous bar accessory set with a martini shaker.  To the left is one of the many lamps around the shop with Holland and Sherry lampshades.

This room is full of fabrics, hats, beautifully upholstered pieces, and other household linen accessories.

I love this soft grey bag with light mustard leather straps.  This is just one of many beautiful bags that they sell.

A fluffy pile of cotton/ linen napkins sits on a table in one of the corners.
I would love to redesign my bed using all these linens for my "country house".  Look at the detailing on these!

As a lover of lighting, this little lamp definitely caught my eye.  The lampshade just makes it.

The store itself is airy yet comfortable.  There is a huge skylight in the second room which lights the linens perfectly.  Take a look at this article written by a girl I went to grade school and prep school with from NY Magazine (woo!!).  Holland and Sherry Bespoke is a store with a lot of classics--not your trendy-OMG-a-chevron-pattern type of place.  Clearly, I'm a fan.  What do you think??  BTW, the room shots were from here and the other shots, I took.

Rando Design Inspiration Friday

It is Friday! This day (September 11th) reminds me to appreciate the simple things in life and to be thankful for everything that I have as an American. Freedom, independence, choices etc. I feel really great about all those things, and we should not take them for granted. SO, let's take a deep breath and appreciate the beauty that is...interior design!

You might be able to see that I'm recently obsessed with Jan Showers. Shes immensly talented, yes? I wish I could see more of that striped wing chair peaking out from the left. Her furniture choices are classic and elegant.

Another favorite and leader of the understated look is Christopher Maya. This looks like a great place to sit with your family around a fire.

In major breaking news (via StyleBeat), Amanda Nisbet's new fabric line is being sold at Holland & Sherry. I've always loved Amanda Nisbet's style and her fabrics are so fun and creative. She also has a lighting line at Urban Electric. You MUST check them out.

I'm just going to slide this one in a) because I took it and b) because it's a symbol of New York and evokes a feeling of patriotism which always feels nice on this day.

Have a lovely day everyone! Weekend plans, you ask? Locking myself in my apartment (watching Vampire Diaries and Project Runway-don't judge me!) and doing homework nonstop! What are your plans?

Spring Trend: Butterflies

Butterflies are everywhere! I've noticed them in magazines, on the blogs, and everywhere I shop (window shop). They are whimsical and colorful and definitely a sign of spring, I'd say. Many accessories are covered in butterflies, from throw pillows, to decoupaged plates, but here are some examples in interiors!

What a sweet kitchen inspired scene by Trevor Dixon via gogoabigail.com

This room from Southern Accents is very garden-inspired with framed butterflies up on the wall. I really love that mini stool under the table with the blanket draped over it.

This is a from good old Domino mag featuring Schumacher's Birds and Butterflies wall paper. Not entirely sure where the larger than life butterfly on the wall comes from...I'm scared. Definitely adds a focal point to the room though, right?

In this super luxurious bedroom by Nancy Boszhardt, she uses framed butterflies on the wall. I like these--they're very close together and all the same species. Very pretty and a great punch of color in this mostly neutral room.

I like this one the most, I think. It looks like a little horticultural study; perhaps there are books on gardening on the other wall and a beautiful garden outside? By Monique Keegan from Country Living.

This exotic garden room is from a Kips Bay showhouse, so is of course very over the top. The chair in the corner is actually in the shape of two butterflies. By David Barrett.

This Freeze Frame Butterfly Chandelier by Lladro, is very whimiscal and looks like a swarm of butterflies around a light. Only $3200!

John Willey had these duvet covers custom made with Holland and Sherry butterfly fabric! This room is super springy with the green painted ceiling and nature inspired fabrics (roman shades, grass cloth walls, etc).

Want some of your own butterfly decor? Here are some small framed drawings from Ballard Designs. Cute!

Read more about this new spring trend HERE in Elle Decor. Personally...I'm not loving it. I know I'm supposed to but all I can think of are glittery butterflies from the mid to late 1990's and I'm uncomfortable. I do love the framed drawings and the horticultural side to them, but the giant, out of scale butterflies are somewhat inappropriate. What do you all think? On board? Hate it? Love it?

Plaid Love

Isn't this Ralph Lauren tablescape so cozy/beautiful? I don't think I would change one thing about it.

Ever since I took a look at the new Loro Piana interiors collection (yesterday) I've been loving on plaids (more than usual) for interiors. They look so cozy and warm and I definitely need that since, if you are in New York today you might have frostbite (me). Plaids are coming in different forms, window pane, tartan, gingham, etc. Here are some you could...warm up to? Wow.

Nathan Egan loves this wool plaid from Rogers and Goffigon. I do too.

This comfortable and classic looking interior was designed by John Peixinho with a tartan plaid bench in front of the fireplace. In Newport, RI.

Mixing tartans is allowed too! From Domino.

Designed by David Mitchell this mix of different neutrals and beiges is carried by those two chairs in Rogers and Goffigon wide gingham print.

I SUPER love these two chairs. They are covered in Colfax and Fowler Lanark plaid.

Jeffrey Bilhuber covered these two chairs in a soft Bahagalpur plaid by Shyam Ahuja.

Through looking, I think the best places for plaids are Ralph Lauren Home, Colefax and Fowler as they are a British company, Holland and Sherry for plaids, tweeds and herringbones, and of course Loro Piana. Am I a stodgy old British man? Hmm.
